So many happy great memories for me!
I grew up in Meadway,Dunstable and moved to LB...from 1977-1979.... ahhh Heatwave,Herbie Hancock,Brass Contruction,Hot Chocolate........ till Grover Washington Junior blew up a storm and laid the Cali to rest! (i had the t-shirt)... the walk down to the 'yum yum' to wait for a taxi... The spot light shineing up into the night sky so people could find their way!. Good friends and great memories xxx

I was working at a radio station in West Germany in 1965 and heard Johnny, Mike and the Shades, as well as Mal Ryder and the Spirits (before they changed to The Primitives) at the Beat Club in Cologne. I had written some imminently forgetable songs and gave them to Mal.
Nice to see that remnants of the group still exist and still perform.
Don't die with your music still in you!

I was 17 in 1960 and lived in nearby Markyate, this made the "Cali" a natural choice for our night out. By 1962 I had a very flash Vauxhall Victor and we would regularly go to the Cali on Fridays we saw most of the major groups there and I remember Russ Sainty well always reliable and playing away at the small stage whilst the main band took a rest.
Nights like those can never be repeated and youngsters today would not understand the magic of live groups week in and week out if only we could put the clock back. Then there was the cruise down West Street in the old Victor with all the girls "thumbing" home" my mate Tom and I were always lucky and we would end up with a couple of girls at Toddington Services for Egg & Chips as it was the only late night cafe. Happy Days

Reply to webmaster Ahhh Toddington Services. Those were the days. No KFC, no MacD just Wimpy burgers which I seem to remember were flat and tasteless. I do remember the hoo ha when the first KFC arrived in Dunstable, still there too. Paul Gray and I used to dive in there for chicken, chips and gravy dip on the way back from gigs.
